If your sprinkler system or fire alarm is out of service, California Fire Code Section 901.7 requires you to notify the fire department immediately and either evacuate the building or post an approved fire watch. Sentry Security Services provides licensed, trained fire watch officers throughout the Bay Area and Sacramento region, often the same day.

When a Fire Watch Is Required

​

• Sprinkler or other water based system out of service for 10 or more cumulative hours in a 24 hour period

• Fire alarm system out of service for 4 or more hours in a 24 hour period

• Hot work such as welding, cutting, grinding, or soldering

• Construction, renovation, or demolition where fire protection is incomplete

• Events with pyrotechnics, open flame, or occupancy above normal limits

• Any time your local fire code official directs you to post one​

Thresholds and conditions can vary by jurisdiction and code edition. Your local fire code official has final authority, and we work directly with them.

Per Section 901.7.4, fire watch personnel are assigned no duty other than patrolling and watching for fire. Our officers do not double as access control or general site security while on fire watch.
